GEARBOXES - with worm drives are cheaper to buy than other gearboxes but many are only 55% efficient. This means that for every £100.00 you spend on energy, you only get £55.00 of power.
It can be cost effective in the short term to buy a different type of gearbox at a higher purchase price but with a higher efficiency.
TOOTHED BELTS - are normally 98% efficient throughout their life. They don’t need adjustment. They fail when the teeth start to break away and a knocking noise is heard. One toothed belt can take the place of four ’V’ belts or more.
PROTECTION - The IEE Regulations require you to protect motors above 0.37kW with a close over-current device. If it isn’t and it fails, it will not be covered by any warrantee, either by your supplier, repairer or energy supplier. Your repairer can normally see by the burnout pattern what has caused the failure.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY - If you buy an energy efficient motor, it will cost you about 50% more to purchase but you will only gain 3% to 4% in energy saving.
Maintenance is vital and can save you a lot of money on energy, speed up your production and reduce down time.
‘WEDGE’ OR ‘V’ BELTS - are manufactured as wrapped or raw edged.
Raw edged belts can transmit more power than their wrapped equivalent.
Cogged belts can be used with smaller diameter pulleys.
INVERTERS - can save you energy and protect your motor. Energy savings can sometimes be large with a small reduction in speed.
On fan systems, your air movement is dependent upon the fan speed. By using an inverter you can have switched or variable speeds.
Resonance occurs at certain speed bands. If your fan system is noisy through resonance, the inverter can finely tune the speed to take you out of this resonant band.
