COMMON MOTOR FAULTS
In our experience, motors do not normally fail through manufacturing faults. When motors fail and are rewound or replaced they are put back in service and the cause of failure is still there.

We can come to your site, find the cause of the failure and fault find on your motors and control equipment. We can set up, align and tension your pulleys and belts correctly. Alignment is important but correct tension is critical.

Our aim is to keep you running and keep you in production.

Our engineers are available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, all the year round.
SINGLE PHASING - The most common motor fault is single phasing. This means that one phase of the 3ph supply has failed, maybe through an over-current device tripping or a contactor, switch or terminal failure.
CONTAMINATION - through ingress of water, acid, grease, dust etc. causing a local winding fault.
COMPLETE BURNOUT - can be caused by the following:-

* Overloading the motor.

* Bearing failure through age, lack of or too much lubrication, over-tensioned belts, ingress of foreign matter, misalignment of load etc.

* Over or under voltage.

* Ambient temperature too high.

* Loss of cooling to the motor.
CAPACITORS - lose their value when in use. Low capacitance on a s/ph motor can cause loss of power, random reversing and over current on load.

POWER FACTOR - is optimum on s/ph motors at a load pre-determined by the manufacturer. At different loads or at no load, the power factor changes and current can rise to above load current values.

Because of this, some single phase motors can burn out in a short period of time if left running unloaded.
